Fastlane® Plus 150SA Extends the Leading Line of Optical Turnstiles with a swinging arm barrier
Austin, Texas – August 25, 2016
Smarter Security, provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today introduced the Fastlane Plus 150SA turnstile. This latest addition to the Fastlane’s Optical Turnstile family features a swing arm barrier, advanced multi-processor intelligence, and utilizes a high-density infrared beam array to detect the movement of individuals and objects in its field of vision. See and demo the new Fastlane® Plus 150SA at ASIS 2016 in Orlando, FL.
“Fastlane Plus has been a large contributor to our industry leadership position over the years,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “This new model injects energy to the line by offering swinging barriers, a form factor that we introduced to the speedgate category with Fastlane Glassgate in 2007. Some customers prefer barriers that move in the direction of travel, so we are excited to enhance the Fastlane brand with this sleek new addition”.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane® Plus 150SA is designed to specific customer requests. It is quick in operation, sleek in appearance and secure and efficient in processing people. The 150SA automates lobby security by ensuring that each person presents a valid credential, with visual and audible alarms signaling an intrusion. Intelligent Fastlane optical technology observes tailgaters as close as ¼ inch and accurately distinguishes between people and objects to minimize nuisance alarms. Smarter Security will demonstrate Fastlane Plus 150SA in booth 2627 at the ASIS 2016 Exhibition starting September 12th in Orlando, Florida. Midwest Supermarket Chain with its Headquarters Building Protected by Fastlane Orders Glassgate 400 Optical Turnstiles to Secure the Employee Entrance to a Distribution Center
Austin, Texas – March 23, 2016
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a Midwest supermarket chain ordered Fastlane Glassgate 400 speedgates to secure one of its distribution centers. The company has relied on Fastlane turnstiles to secure its headquarters and another building for nearly two years and selected the same model for its warehouse due to the reliability and success of the existing installations.
“The desire for secured lobbies continues to expand beyond the typical big-city applications and customers,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We’re also seeing increased orders of Fastlanes with locking barriers, another sign that security efforts are tightening, and we’ve met the growing need by providing optional locking brakes on most of our barrier turnstiles. We’re thrilled to continue securing additional sites with this large, high-quality customer.”
The supermarket chain ordered two lanes of Glassgate 400 with six-foot barriers from Smarter Security to secure the employee entrance of the distribution center. The company chose Fastlane turnstiles to protect employees from various threats and to provide better insight to management on who is in the building at all times. The inclusion of the locking brake matches the lanes in the company’s headquarters. This initial installation of Glassgate 400s has been so pleasing to management that no other alternative was considered to secure this additional building.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 400 with the optional locking brakes and six-foot-high barriers is the highest security turnstile in the Fastlane line. The swinging glass barriers move in the direction of user travel to allow authorized personnel quick entry. Optional toothed, locking brakes prevent the barriers from being pushed open. Fastlane’s industry-leading intelligence minimizes nuisance and false alarms while providing ¼ inch tailgate detection. For user safety, Glassgate 400 is fashioned with safety beams to minimize the chance for human contact. Unlike other brands, full-height shafts support the glass barriers to reduce the risk of breakage. Glassgate 400 is available in three additional barrier heights.
General Contractor Chooses Fastlane Glasswing for a Second Building in Development after Years of Turnstile Reliability and Effective Security in an Earlier Completed High-Rise
Austin, Texas – February 10, 2016
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a new office tower in Boston recently ordered Fastlane Glasswing optical turnstiles to secure the building lobby entrance. The owner of the building scheduled to open this year also opened a nearby building with Glasswing in 2010. The highly positive experience over the years convinced the company to match the aesthetics across the buildings and rely on a proven solution.
“Boston is one of those high-profile cities where the threats to individuals and businesses are more extensive and come in many forms” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “As a result, it has become the norm for new Class A high-rises to open with optical turnstiles in the lobby. We are thrilled to be chosen again by this building development team, and we are working to extend our New York City market dominance further east into Boston. Bringing on Stefano Wildermuth, our first New England region manager, in the last year is helping us achieve this objective.”
This customer ordered five lanes of Fastlane Glasswing from Smarter Security to secure the lobby entrance of the office tower opening in Boston later this year. A consultant specified the Glasswing turnstiles for the same customer back in 2009 due to Fastlane’s technology advantage. In both buildings, the tops of the turnstiles were customized to match the unique stone in the buildings. Smarter Security’s flexibility in handling this customization request the first time, the effectiveness of the entry control, and the reliability of the lanes over the many years since startup led to this second order. Despite the numerous turnstile brands available, the customer chose to continue buying Fastlane due to its industry-leading technology and aesthetics.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glasswing is a turnstile with wing-shaped, glass barriers that retract into the pedestals upon authorization. The barriers move quickly out of the path and will stay open for a series of authorized entrants. Safety beams prevent human contact by the barriers. In fact, Glasswing has more beams dedicated to safety than some competitive turnstiles have altogether. Intruders as close as ¼” inch behind authorized users will be alarmed, and anyone entering the lane without a credential or pushing aside the barriers will sound different alarms. An optional locking barrier will prevent the barriers from being opened by hand. Glasswing is UL 2593 listed to further enhance safety and streamline building inspections.
Company Upgrades Entry Security at West Coast Office Building with Fastlane Glassgate 150 Turnstiles to Mitigate the Growing Threat of Terrorism
Austin, Texas – January 12, 2016
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a staffing company recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 150 optical turnstiles in a headquarters building on the west coast. Terrorism in Paris a year ago, where shooters invaded a commercial office, signaled a need to tighten the entry security at its main office, and the company chose to rely on the U.S. industry leader to properly address the security risk.
“Terrorist activities are unfortunately spreading into the United States and add to the reasons Class A office towers and important organization buildings need higher levels of physical security,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Fifteen years ago, optical turnstiles were mainly found in big cities east of the Mississippi. The world today is far different; now it is becoming standard fare to tighten lobby security in cities of all sizes with Fastlane. We are pleased to add this prestigious customer to the long list of others who appreciate Fastlane’s industry-leading intelligence, aesthetics and reliability.”
The staffing firm installed four lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 150 to secure the main building at its headquarters location in the western United States. Since the office building is leased, the firm chose to use Fastlane Floor Protector so the lobby floor would not need to be drilled to anchor the lanes. For the same reason, unique, free-standing Fastlane Infill is placed in the lobby to guide authorized people through the lanes to the secure side of the lobby. Smarter Security was the sole supplier considered due to its market-leading position and the many strengths that make Fastlanes so highly appreciated. Glassgate 150 was chosen partly for the value, and also for the fine aesthetics that complemented the architectural design in the building.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 150 is the company’s best-selling and entry-level barrier turnstile that helps automate building entry security. Glassgate 150 has pedestal-high glass barriers and glass side panels that combine to project a more open feel in the lobby. Security is high as tailgaters are alarmed as close as one-quarter inch, and worker entry is streamlined with passage of up to 60 people per minute, an industry best. Glassgate 150 was the first Fastlane model to be designed to be connected to an Ethernet network and four years later, nearly all Fastlanes are IP-enabled.
Fastlane Glassgate 250 Turnstiles to Control Elevator Access are a Key Part of Security Upgrades at the Bank’s New Office Tower
Austin, Texas – December 9, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a financial institution recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 250 optical turnstiles in its new headquarters building in the northeastern United States. As a proponent of LEED certification, the end user appreciated the energy efficiency of Fastlane and trusted the extensive experience of the property manager that recommended Fastlane for its security and safety.
“We are finding that few Class A office towers open these days without the automated security that speedgates provide,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “This customer is one of many banks that place a great value on securing their workplaces and select Fastlane turnstiles to help them accomplish this mission. We are proud this organization recognized that not only does Smarter Security provide the most intelligent speedgate solution on the market, but that we also package that security in the most premium, sleek designs.”
The financial institution ordered six lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 250 to secure access to two banks of elevators in its new headquarters building. Turnstiles, CCTV, and an access control expansion were all part of the security upgrades as the company moved into the building. A leading property management firm working with the bank specified Fastlane due to its experience with the brand as a highly secure and safe solution in many other high-rises. The end user chose Glassgate 250 for the complementing aesthetics of the stainless steel pedestals and the low glass barriers.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 250 is an IP-enabled speedgate with bidirectional, swinging glass barriers that automates and accelerates a secure entry process for office buildings. Fastlane projects a dense matrix of beams across the passageway and uses distributed intelligence and advanced algorithms to quickly discern if objects moving through the lane are intruders; as a result, false and nuisance alarms are minimized. Glassgate 250 was the first UL 2593 listed turnstile in the industry and is one of several such Fastlane models that can help streamline the building inspection process and lower costs.
Responding to MARS-E Security Requirements, Insurance Company Replaces Aging Optical Turnstiles in Headquarters with Fastlane Glassgate 150
Austin, Texas – November 11, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced an insurance company in the southern United States recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 150 optical turnstiles to secure access to its headquarters. Already a user of a competitor’s optical-only units, the company upgraded to barrier turnstiles and switched to Fastlane in order to tighten security and avoid the risk of steep fines for lack of compliance with MARS-E regulations.
“MARS-E is a good example of where physical security and cybersecurity intersect,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “If someone can gain access to a private network by unauthorized physical intrusion into a corporate facility, critical data is suddenly at risk. We are pleased to be working with this insurance company and will work to help other such companies in the exchanges secure highly personal information.”
The insurance company in the southern United States ordered two lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 150 to secure lobby access to the elevators in its headquarters building. The company has employees present their credentials not just to enter, but also to exit the building in order to maintain strong access records and know building occupancy at any given time. Due to MARS-E, a turnstile with barriers was a requirement. A strong recommendation from a systems integrator very experienced with Fastlane and the sleek, open aesthetics of Glassgate 150 led the company to replace existing lobby turnstiles from a competitor. Minimum Acceptable Risk Standards for Exchanges (MARS-E) is a set of federal requirements for insurance companies to adequately secure the personal health, tax and identifiable information of exchange users.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 150 is one of many barrier turnstiles in the Fastlane line. Glassgate 150 has pedestal-height swinging glass barriers complemented by glass side panels that together create an open feel in the lobby. With advanced Fastlane technology, a tailgater as close as one-quarter inch behind an authorized worker will be alarmed, and nuisance alarms from bags and other items are virtually non-existent. Glassgate 150 is IP-enabled and with this IP connection and Fastlane’s Multi-lane Controller, a building or area population count can be tabulated for safety and smarter facility management.
Financial Institution in the Midwest Deploys Door Detective CL at Doorways to Multiple Data Centers to Control Access to Sensitive Company Information and Assets
Austin, Texas – October 14, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a financial institution in the Midwest recently ordered Door Detective CL to help secure corporate data centers. Aspiring to tighten physical security to support cyber security objectives, the customer acknowledged and addressed the vulnerability of the open, access-controlled door. Prior experience with Fastlane turnstiles motivated this firm to entrust Smarter Security with this door security need.
“Banking and financial firms remain among the top targets for cyber attacks, leading the industry veterans to carefully consider security vulnerabilities and smartly address them,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “It is rewarding to be selected to play a part in the security efforts that protect not just this company and its employees, but also its thousands of customers. Door Detective is an elegant and easy solution to a widespread and little-understood problem in access control.”
The financial institution ordered twelve units of Door Detective CL from Smarter Security to deploy on doorway entrances to multiple data centers. In a proactive move to strengthen security before a breach, the company chose the CL model because it values high security and wanted the top-of-the-line model to work together with biometric readers and two-factor authentication. Door Detective sounds a local alarm and flashes red lights if someone tries to enter a data center without presenting proper credentials. Twenty-four-seven, on-site security staff is notified of the intrusion and responds to assess and contain the threat. This order follows prior installations of Fastlane optical turnstiles to secure the banking firm’s office building lobby entrances.
Door Detective from Smarter Security enhances access control at doorways by forcing every person passing through to present a valid credential and move only in the authorized direction. It is designed to eliminate the threats of tailgaters, people sneaking in as someone leaves the secure area, and piggybackers who are authorized but don’t present their credential. Door Detective comes in three models with advanced intelligence to minimize false alarms from items pushed, pulled, or carried. Door Detective CL is the premium model with elegant aesthetics and status lights to provide users feedback.
University in Midwest Adds Fastlane Glassgate 250 Optical Turnstiles with FastScan to Better Control Visitors and Protect Students in their Residence
Austin, Texas – August 26, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced an urban university in the Midwest recently ordered Fastlane Glassgate 250 optical turnstiles to help secure a dormitory. Modern demands on universities to provide safer environments for students prompted the university to add sophisticated entry control, and a successful experience with this installation may lead to more around the campus.
“We are pleased to be working with this institution to both physically and psychologically safeguard its students in their living spaces,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “The violence that has taken place on American campuses is tragic, and one of the rewards of what we do every day is having the ability to help address this problem.”
The Midwest university in a downtown area ordered four lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 250 from Smarter Security to control the lobby entrance for one of its residential dormitories. The turnstile installation is designed to adjust to the flow of people with one lane dedicated to entry, one to exit, and two lanes available for bidirectional passage. Visitors who formerly signed in on a paper logbook now will be issued a barcode badge and pass through the turnstiles by using Smarter Security’s FastScan installed in two of the lanes. Both residents and visitors will card in and card out so the housing management knows building occupancy at any time. Fastlane was recommended to the university by its systems integrator that is familiar with Fastlane’s reliability and ease of integration with various access control technologies. The university likes Fastlane aesthetics and selected Glassgate 250 for the open feel of the low, glass barriers.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 250 is a speedgate with pedestal-height, glass barriers that swing in the direction of the user’s travel. Entry control is automated and upgraded as residents and visitors must present a valid credential to access the building. Glassgate 250 handles up to 60 people per minute to minimize any delayed passage. The barriers are a visual deterrent and have moderate resistance to further deter intruders, followed by a second, louder alarm if someone pushes the barriers open. A locking brake is a higher security option to prevent invalid entry. Glassgate 250 is an IP-enabled optical turnstile that was the first turnstile in the industry to have a UL 2593 listing.
Existing Customer Installs Fastlane Glassgate 300 Barrier Turnstiles in New Building to Strengthen Security; FastScan PS Integrates Visitors into Secure Entry Process Using Smartphones
Austin, Texas – July 22, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced an established social media company recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 300 optical turnstiles for a new building in California. Happy with the Fastlane lanes protecting an existing high-rise, the customer choose to upgrade security to the latest barrier turnstile from Fastlane and enhance visitor management with FastScan PS, a unique offering that replaces printed visitor badges with an emailed QR code.
“Tech companies have been an important market for us in recent years as they’ve embraced stepping up physical security and appreciate the high technology in Fastlane,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We frequently have customers purchase again for additional buildings, and the path of this customer – from non-barrier to a barrier model – reflects the overall market direction. We are pleased to continue our relationship with this company and to complement their new building lobby with the elegant aesthetics of Fastlane design.”
The social media company ordered four lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 300 from Smarter Security to protect the lobby access to the elevators in its new office building in California. Fastlane non-barrier lanes have secured another building for years, and the company chose a barrier model because it desires a higher level of security in 2015. The customer selected Glassgate 300 because of its unique style and pedestal-height barriers for a more streamlined appearance. FastScan PS installed in the lanes will help the company go paperless with visitors at this location, reducing waste and lowering costs, by allowing visitors to pass through the Glassgate 300 lanes using individualized QR codes in emails read from their smartphone screens.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 300 is unlike any other turnstile in the industry with a design that eliminates the ends. Combined with the glass side panels and barriers, this creates a more open atmosphere. Security is at a high level as the barriers in heights up to 59” are a strong deterrent, and Fastlane optical technology reliably alarms intruders and tailgaters as close as ¼” apart. Glassgate 300 is an IP-enabled turnstile which can be managed over the web from any PC or mobile device and, using XML data and CGI scripts, can be controlled from within an access control system. FastScan is a multi-reader system for Fastlane turnstiles that, unlike others, is factory-installed and has the full-warranty of the turnstile. Seamlessly integrated, it reads proximity cards as well as printed visitor barcode badges and QR codes from smartphones.
Fastlane Glasswing Turnstiles to Help Company Stay Ahead of DHS Regulations and Protect its People and Sensitive Chemical Information
Austin, Texas – June 30, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a leading chemical company ordered Fastlane Glasswing optical turnstiles for a building on the east coast. DHS directives for chemical companies moved the company to better control the entry to the office building and witnessing the operation and beauty of Fastlane turnstiles installed nearby was compelling.
“The continued threats of domestic and foreign terrorism make securing our chemical industry vitally important,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We are pleased to be trusted with helping this company improve its building security. There is an increased demand for Fastlane turnstiles across industries and throughout the United States as organizations use this time of relative prosperity to automate and strengthen entrance control in their facilities.”
This chemical industry leader ordered five lanes of Fastlane Glasswing from Smarter Security to more effectively control visitors and employees entering the main lobby and to restrict access on an upper floor of a building in the eastern United States. The systems integrator had a positive prior experience with Smarter Security and took its client to observe Glasswing installations. The aesthetics and quiet, reliable operation of the lanes handling a high flow of people convinced the end user to go with Fastlane. The chemical company also chose Fastlane Infill to block off parts of the lobby and guide workers to enter through the security lanes.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glasswing is unique in the Fastlane line as it is the only model with retracting glass barriers. It comes in three lane widths from 22” to the standard of 36” for ADA. The glass barriers retract upon authorization and quickly reset to block any tailgating attempt. Ample safety beams prevent the angel-wing-shaped barriers from striking people in the lane. Fastlane optical technology alarms any piggybackers or unauthorized users and a separate alarm sounds when the barriers are forced open by hand. Glasswing is one of many Fastlane turnstiles with a UL 2593 listing.
Fastlane Glassgate 200 Turnstiles with Locking Brakes will Upgrade Entry Security at Second Site for Customer
Austin, Texas – May 13, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a top ten energy company selected Fastlane Glassgate 200 optical turnstiles for a facility in the northeast. After switching to Fastlane from a competitor, this will be the second installation for this customer as it moves to strengthen entry security in buildings in many parts of the country.
“We have enjoyed great success in helping to secure energy companies in recent years, and we are pleased to continue our relationship with this organization,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Energy is a critically important industry in the global economy and with this position comes a higher threat level. Fastlane IP turnstiles help neutralize these threats for many Fortune 100 companies, which is a testament to the superior entrance security they deliver.”
The energy company ordered four lanes of Glassgate 200 from Smarter Security to secure the main lobby and a second entrance for a building in the northeast United States. After a disappointing experience with a competitor, the customer purchased Glassgate 200 for a different building last year and this experience led to the latest order of the same model. The aesthetics of Glassgate 200 were an initial draw and the reliability after nearly a year of running them is appealing today. The barriers for this latest order are 5-feet high to deter people from jumping over them and are equipped with a locking brake to obstruct unauthorized access when the entrances are unstaffed. To avoid coring the floor of this older building, the customer ordered Fastlane floor protectors.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 200 is an IP-enabled optical turnstile with swinging glass barriers available in three different heights. The barriers quickly open in the direction of travel for authenticated users and can remain open for other authenticated workers to provide the fastest throughput speed in the industry. Tailgaters passing through the open barriers are alarmed while objects carried, pushed or pulled cause no alarm due to intelligent Fastlane optical technology. An electromechanical locking brake is a high-security option that prevents unauthorized users from pushing past closed barriers.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Adds Fastlane Plus AS to Several Building Lobbies to Increase Safety and Security for Staff and Patients
Austin, Texas – February 10, 2015
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that Thomas Jefferson University Hospital recently ordered Fastlane Plus AS optical turnstiles and Fastlane Intelligate to secure its Gibbon Building lobbies. A prior Fastlane installation proved the feasibility of controlling the traditionally open hospital lobby and prompted the organization to take further action. This latest Fastlane order is one of several the hospital placed in 2014 which, in total, will secure five different buildings on the hospital campus.
“Fastlane Plus turnstiles have made a significant difference in our hospital security,” said Edward Schultz, Senior Project Manager/Facilities Design & Construction of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. “The turnstiles allow us to control access to our buildings resulting in a safer environment for our employees. Our staff is happy the buildings are now controlled, and we look forward to extending the benefits by adding lanes to additional buildings.”
Nine lanes of Fastlane Plus AS from Smarter Security will soon be installed by Siemens Building Technologies in sets of three to protect the three public entrances to the Gibbon Building. Doctors and staff enter through the lobby turnstiles or through access-controlled, private doors, while all approved visitors are issued barcode badges that are read by the unique FastScan system integrated in the lanes. An unauthorized entrance is alarmed and the intruder is quickly confronted by lobby security staff. Intelligate will be installed with each lane set and this wider access gate with tailgate detection will allow passage for stretchers and bariatric wheelchairs. In total, eighteen lanes of Fastlane Plus will protect Thomas Jefferson University Hospital buildings.
“A few years ago, we worked with a security consultant who specified us for a project at Thomas Jefferson University,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We are thrilled that the success with those early installations at the university turned into this fantastic relationship with the co-located hospital system. Big-city hospitals face unique challenges and with Fastlane entry control they can reduce many day-to-day risks as well as deter more extreme threats such as the tragic, targeted shootings at hospitals in El Paso and Boston last month. This new accountability contributes to the protection of lives as well as the hospital’s bottom line.”
“I’ve worked with Smarter Security on all these projects in Philadelphia, and their people really get it. They are friendly and responsive when I need a quote or any support,” said Brian Drea, Account Executive for Siemens Building Technologies, the systems integrator for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. “Fastlane optical turnstiles are distinctive because they look great and are highly reliable. I also appreciate Fastlane’s broad selection that helps me serve a variety of customers.”
Fastlane Plus AS is an optical turnstile from Smarter Security that has barrier arms to deter unwanted entry. The model is unique in the Fastlane brand in that the barriers are positioned off-center; the longer end of the pedestal preceding the barrier allows the turnstile to be used in a “normally open” mode where the barriers are retracted and rise to block the path when a person enters the lane without authorization. No matter the barrier position, advanced Fastlane optical technology alarms intruders and tailgaters who fail to present a credential. Intelligate is an access gate nearly forty inches wide and, unlike other such gates, accurately alarms tailgaters by using the same Fastlane technology. FastScan is a factory-installed, fully integrated proximity and barcode reader solution for Fastlane turnstiles. It allows visitors to seamlessly integrate into the controlled entry process used by employees.
Door Detective Helps Secure Tenant Space Entrance Doors in Multiple Buildings and Aids in Reinforcing the Importance of Security to All Employees
Austin, Texas – December 9, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a financial institution in the northeast United States recently purchased more Door Detective® units to better secure its office spaces. Since testing the tailgate detection system in 2012, this customer has placed more than ten orders of Door Detective to strengthen the traditional access control used at public-facing doors throughout several buildings.
“This customer has been a terrific one, and we are proud to be working with them as they grow into additional corporate locations,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “It’s all about accountability. While many organizations could benefit from tighter security at some doors, it makes total sense that financial institutions which maintain so much confidential, personal data and high-value assets would want to reduce the risk created every time an access-controlled door is opened. We’ve had a record number of orders for Door Detective this year and it’s partly because we’re growing the base of existing customers coming back for more after seeing how well Door Detective works.”
The financial institution ordered six more Door Detective CL units from Smarter Security to secure the entry doors to newly leased spaces in multi-tenant buildings. The customer prefers the CL model with its premium aesthetics because these doors are highly visible to employees. Anti-tailgating and employee accountability are very important to the organization so audible and visual alarms from the CL are followed by security staff confronting the intruder or employees that have participated in “piggybacking” – an authorized person knowingly letting someone else enter the secured space. After thoroughly testing Door Detective CL in 2012, the customer placed a large order and has ordered small amounts several times in each year since as it expands its operations.
Door Detective CL is an anti-tailgating and direction-control system from Smarter Security that is used to complete access control at a door by securing the doorway once the door is opened. If more than one person passes through after an authentication that unlocks the door, Door Detective sounds a local alarm and can trigger additional security actions. Door Detective also helps ensure that people pass only in the approved direction. For example, if one exit is authorized at the door, someone trying to enter through that door will trigger alarms since an entrance was not authorized. Door Detective keeps things honest once a door is opened, providing the accountability that organizations are seeking. Smarter Security offers two other Door Detective models.
Fastlane Glassgate 300 Accentuates Renovated Lobby Aesthetics and Greatly Increases Security and Employee Accountability at Headquarters Building
Austin, Texas – November 18, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a worldwide electronics company recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 300 turnstiles in its Canadian headquarters. As part of a building renovation, the company chose to put optical turnstiles in the lobby to increase accountability and safety. The company’s appreciation of and familiarity with Fastlane in the United States contributed to Smarter Security winning the business.
“Smarter Security made an investment in Canada last year by putting Colin Wright on the ground in Ottawa, and we are seeing the returns this year,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “This order is one of the first for our new Glassgate 300 and reinforces our belief that the Canadian market will appreciate Fastlane’s elegant design and our many UL 2593 listed models. The recent tragic event in Ottawa reminded us all that we need to be vigilant and thorough in our security preparedness, and Smarter Security has multiple layers of entry and outdoor security solutions to help.”
The customer ordered two lanes of Glassgate 300 turnstiles from Smarter Security to enhance security at its country headquarters in the Greater Toronto Area. Previously, card access through lobby doors to the secure work area led to many employees tailgating through the doors for various reasons. The customer wanted all employees to badge in to increase accountability and because they needed to know who was in the building at any time for safety during situations that call for emergency evacuation. The building renovation included heavy usage of glass in the design and the customer chose Glassgate 300 because it wonderfully complements the aesthetics. While several turnstile suppliers were considered, the years of positive experience with Fastlane at another location on the west coast of the United States gave Smarter Security the edge.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 300 is an incredibly sleek speedgate with swinging glass barriers that can be up to five feet (1500 mm) high. It is the latest model from the market leader in the Americas (per IHS Research) and its striking minimalist design has been well received by the market at 2014 trade shows. Fastlane produces these aesthetics without compromising security; Fastlane optical technology reliably alarms intruders that push through the barriers or that tailgate within ¼” (5 mm) of an authorized person. Smarter Security will showcase Glassgate 300 in booth 338 at the ISC East trade show in New York City, November 19-20, 2014.
Existing Customer Happy with Fastlane Glassgate 200 Turnstiles Will Secure Multiple Building Lobbies on a West Coast Campus
Austin, Texas – October 29, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a leading technology company selected Fastlane Glassgate 200 optical turnstiles to upgrade lobby security for multiple buildings. Already using the same Fastlane model in three other locations, the company placed its largest order with Smarter Security to enhance security while saving manpower costs on a campus in the western United States.
“We are excited to be working again with this customer that made a wise decision to automate the lobby security at another location,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We upgraded Glassgate 200 to an IP turnstile since the customer’s first installation, and it remains a very popular model after its sleek styling revolutionized the industry in 2006. Today, we have many more barrier turnstiles with an impressive R.O.I. that can enable a reduction in security staffing while better securing the workplace.”
The technology company ordered identical sets of Glassgate 200 lanes from Smarter Security for five buildings in order to secure lobby access to the elevators. The company took this action in order to reduce the security officer staff it had working the building entrances and to save the associated annual operating costs. With appreciation for Fastlane Glassgate 200 at other corporate sites around the country, this model was an obvious choice. To provide higher security, the customer chose a barrier height of nearly five feet. And unlike other turnstile brands, Fastlane’s speed of throughput relieved the local facility manager’s concern that the barriers might result in unpleasant lines for workers.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 200 is an optical turnstile with swinging glass barriers that can be up to five feet high. The barriers open quickly for authenticated users, and one person per second can pass through the lane because the barriers will stay open for other authenticated workers following closely behind. Intelligent Fastlane optical technology is designed to alarm when intruders and tailgaters try to enter, while ignoring objects such as bags and umbrellas; this further supports fast office access. Fastlane Connect puts Glassgate 200 on a network and enables the lanes to be managed, diagnosed, or updated remotely via a web browser or desktop console.
Customized Fastlane Plus AS Security Turnstiles Outfitted with Latest Technologies Provide Elegant and Fast Entrance for Building Tenants and Visitors
Austin, Texas – October 15, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a New York City high-rise selected Fastlane Plus AS optical turnstiles to secure its building lobby. The unique design of the upcoming building led to architectural requirements for custom turnstiles that complement the space. The building owner appreciates Fastlane in some of its other properties and with this new building, embraces the efficiencies, cost savings and appeal of the IP and smartphone technologies Smarter Security offers.
“We are proud to be Manhattan’s dominant turnstile brand, securing over 120 of its monumental buildings, and we’re excited to be chosen to help secure this new distinctive building as well,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Though we have the industry’s broadest selection of optical turnstiles, we frequently work closely with architects to design special pedestals to complement their vision for the lobby. This customer is one of those cases, and is a fine example of the unmatched combination of high technology and high design available when you choose Fastlane.”
The customer ordered multiple lanes of Fastlane Plus AS as well as Fastlane Intelligate from Smarter Security to secure the lobby entrance to the multi-tenant office tower. The pedestals are unique to the building by having a custom metal finish, harder edges, and other special treatments. The Intelligate ordered for VIP entries and deliveries has complementary custom treatments. While the building owner has different Fastlane models in other buildings, it chose Fastlane Plus AS because it wants to have the turnstiles in an open mode at times, where the barrier arms would normally be retracted and rise quickly to block an unauthorized individual who enters the lane. To assist tenants and visitors in getting to their office suites more quickly, lift displays for elevator destination control will be placed in the turnstile tops to direct users to the most efficient elevator to ride.
This New York City high-rise is one of Smarter Security’s first customers to order the new FastScan PS, a dual reader technology that reads QR codes from smartphone screens to process visitors quickly through the lanes. Sending visitors an email with a unique QR code will greatly reduce consumption of paper ticket stock, saving the building “thousands of dollars a month” and reducing the environmental impact of its operations. And by using Fastlane Connect to manage the turnstiles over an IP network, the building will further reduce costs and ease management.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Plus AS is an optical turnstile with aluminum barrier arms that drop into the pedestal body upon user authorization. Its Normally Open mode provides barrier security while projecting a more open appearance in the lobby. Unique in the industry, Fastlane Plus barrier arms breakaway in the travel direction to enhance user safety while still sounding alarms. Fastlane Plus AS works with the access control system to allow up to sixty people per minute to enter. Intelligate is a wide access gate with swinging glass barriers used for large groups or package deliveries. It also provides intelligent tailgate detection to secure this entry point from intruders.
Building Plans for Revolving Doors Changed to Fastlane Glassgate 400 Optical Turnstiles Yield Significant Cost Savings
Austin, Texas – September 23, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a top oil and gas company selected Fastlane Glassgate 400 optical turnstiles to secure office buildings on a corporate campus. Revolving doors were in the original plans for the building entries but the compelling advantages of and the customer’s experience with Glassgate 400 led to the revision and ultimate order for Smarter Security. This is the fifth and largest order of Fastlane turnstiles from this customer.
“With the six-foot high, locking glass barriers available with Glassgate 400, there is little need for revolving doors in the interior of a building,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We are truly happy to be working with this petroleum customer once again and to extend our engagement with and protection of its employees to even more buildings. This is one of our largest orders of the year and helps us stay on the aggressive growth pace we planned for 2014.”
The customer ordered fourteen lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 400 from Smarter Security to provide entry control for several entry points in two campus buildings. Fastlane turnstiles became preferred over the revolving doors because they solved the problem at a fraction of the cost, and the significant throughput advantages would allow employees faster passage to and from work. Also important was the superior aesthetics offered by Fastlane. After successfully using the same turnstile model in other buildings for more than a year and enjoying the sales support and service from Smarter Security, the oil and gas company considered no other turnstile supplier.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 400 is the highest security speedgate the company offers. Swinging glass barriers are available in four different heights and the six-foot version is an obstruction as well as a deterrent to intruders. Available with a hard lock, the barriers can become an immovable obstacle allowing the turnstile to be used at an unstaffed entrance. As with all Fastlane barrier turnstiles, user throughput is up to sixty people per minute. Smarter Security will have Glassgate 400 and other Fastlane turnstiles on display in booth 3429 at ASIS International’s annual seminar in Atlanta, September 29 – October 2, 2014.
Fastlane Glassgate 150 Selected to Bring Modern Entry Control and High Security to Established Industry Leader
Austin, Texas – August 19, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced a marine services company in the southwest recently chose Fastlane Glassgate 150 optical turnstiles to secure its corporate headquarters. New executive management is leading change to increase accountability, which includes securing the building entry, and Smarter Security prevailed over two competitors to be part of the change.
“With the variety of threats present today, this organization made a smart decision to secure its headquarters employees with optical turnstiles, and we are excited they chose Fastlane,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Glassgate 150 is our fastest-selling model this year and has been embraced by organizations all across the country. As is true with the vast majority, this customer will also be using our unique Site Certification & Training service that helps ensure a smooth start and leads to years of reliable operation.”
The customer ordered six lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 150 from Smarter Security to control access to the two elevator banks. By requiring employees to badge out as they exit the building, the organization is also able to track who is in the building at any given time. The customer chose Glassgate 150 for the high security and great value, and because the elegant design accentuated the beautiful aesthetics of the building lobby. Smarter Security also provided Fastlane Floor Protectors which eliminate the work and expense in coring the floor for cable runs. This allows the customer to preserve the beauty and integrity of the unique stone floor.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 150 is the entry-level speedgate in the Fastlane line, featuring waist-high swinging glass barriers and open pedestal sides. These aesthetics provide an open feel for building lobbies, and the fast-moving barriers allow convenient access by employees. Intelligent Fastlane optical technology secures the entrance by alarming intruders that push through the barriers or tailgate behind an authorized user. Glassgate 150 is an IP turnstile, and customers can use Fastlane Connect to easily and cost-effectively manage and assess the lane.
Happy Customer Chooses Fastlane Glassgate 400 to Strengthen Security and Replace Older Fastlane Optical Turnstiles in Corporate Headquarters
Austin, Texas – May 21, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced an existing customer recently selected Fastlane Glassgate 400 to better secure its corporate headquarters. The Midwest-based financial institution implemented a lobby renovation and sought to improve both aesthetics and security against unauthorized intruders. Multiple experiences with Fastlane optical turnstiles that began with this building convinced the customer to choose Glassgate 400.
“We are very pleased to have had this bank as a customer for many years, and to be working with them yet again,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “The move this customer made from barrier arms to tall, locking glass barriers reflects the overall market direction for the last several years. With the billions in assets the bank manages, Glassgate 400 – our highest security turnstile – is the ideal choice that also brings an elegance to match their new lobby design.”
The financial institution ordered three lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 400 with six-foot high barriers to secure the main lobby of its global headquarters. The customer installed Smarter Security’s Fastlane Plus optical turnstiles in this same building more than five years ago. It subsequently deployed Glassgate 400 in another building, choosing this model for the higher security provided by the obstruction of the tall barriers and the barrier brake that greatly slows intruders. Years of experience illustrated the quality and reliability of Fastlane turnstiles and the strong support Smarter Security provides. That brought this customer back to Smarter Security when it desired to upgrade the lobby security in its headquarters.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Glassgate 400 is an optical turnstile with glass barriers that swing open in the direction a user is moving. It is available in standard or ADA lane widths and with glass barriers in four heights between 42 and 71 inches. It requires substantial force to push through Glassgate 400 barriers, and a locking brake is an available option that adds another level of security against intruders. Advanced Fastlane optical technology detects tailgaters and piggybackers sneaking in behind authorized users, and anti-crawl beams alarm efforts to pass under the barriers. Glassgate 400 is one of many IP-enabled turnstiles from Smarter Security.
Midwest University Tightens Access at Dormitories by Deploying Door Detective CL to Enhance Door Security on Exterior Building Doors
Austin, Texas – April 16, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a university in the Midwest United States recently ordered more than fifteen Door Detective CL units to help stop unauthorized access through dormitory exit doors. Prior experience and success with Fastlane optical turnstiles led to the university trusting Smarter Security with helping to solve this door security challenge as well.
“It is a high compliment when customers come back and buy different products from a company, and we are pleased to be working with this university again,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “University campuses are at greater risk of tailgating and piggybacking than corporate offices because young adults are less likely to confront a tailgater or to follow access rules. Locked doors are wonderful security devices…until they are opened. In Door Detective, universities finally have a solution that helps keep things honest once a door has been opened, which is when the access control system is essentially blind.”
The university ordered seventeen Door Detective CL units from Smarter Security to place on perimeter doors used by students for free egress from several residence halls. Some students were violating rules and opening doors for friends to come in, and it was possible for someone to enter a door unnoticed as it was closing. With Door Detective, students can still exit the doors as before, but any entrance through the door sounds an alarm. The university installed Fastlane optical turnstiles several years ago which greatly improved entry control in dormitory lobbies. Appreciation for Smarter Security’s technology advantages and responsive service and support convinced the customer to stay with the company, and it chose the CL model because of the status lights that provide users feedback.
Door Detective is a tailgate detection system available from Smarter Security that works on an access-controlled door and forces everyone who enters to present authorized credentials, even if the door is held open. In cases such as at this university, where no access control system is in place, Door Detective can be used to stop direction violations. In either situation, an alarm sounds when there is a violation, and this can trigger a CCTV camera or another door to lock. The company offers three models to meet different needs, budgets, and aesthetic preferences.
Fastlane Plus Optical Turnstiles with Elevator Destination Dispatch Installed in San Francisco Downtown Office Building Recently Opened
Austin, Texas – March 11, 2014
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced the installation of its Fastlane Plus 400MA turnstiles for a new San Francisco downtown office building. As the first speculative development to start in San Francisco since 2006, the building is equipped with sophisticated elevator destination dispatch technology along with striking contemporary architecture. Fastlane Plus is integrated with the elevators and supports both of these features while automating lobby security for the building.
“With its unique design features, this is an exciting new building in San Francisco and we are happy to have Fastlane securing the entry,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We frequently work with customers to tailor pedestals to accentuate the aesthetics of a particular building, and we’re seeing a growing interest in elevator destination dispatch being tied into the turnstiles. We’ve worked with all the major elevator companies and believe this combination of speed and security adds great value for tenants.”
The property has three lanes of Fastlane Plus 400MA turnstiles securing access to the elevator bank serving the ten-story building. A key reason for installing optical turnstiles in the development was to streamline the speed of entry and office access for tenants. Fastlane offers the fastest throughput and Smarter Security worked with the systems integrator and the elevator subcontractor to integrate destination control such that a tenant or visitor is directed to the optimum elevator as he/she passes through the turnstile. Customization led to black barrier arms and matching black reader windows to complement lobby elements. The client selected Fastlane Plus for its functionality and aesthetics after observing its performance in another building.
Smarter Security’s Fastlane Plus 400MA is an optical turnstile with barrier arms that quickly drop into the pedestal sides to allow access for authorized users. The barrier arms are unique in the industry in that they break away in either direction for safety and have an automated system that adjusts them to horizontal alignment which maximizes aesthetics. Intelligent Fastlane optical technology ensures tailgaters and other intruders are alarmed upon entry while minimizing false alarms. Fastlane Plus 400MA is also the industry’s only barrier arm optical turnstile with a UL 2593 listing and IP connectivity to manage the turnstiles over a network.
Fastlane Glassgate 200 Optical Turnstiles Selected After Successful Fastlane Operation for Years in Previous Headquarters
Austin, Texas – April 30, 2013
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a multi-billion-dollar energy company recently installed Fastlane Glassgate 200 optical turnstiles in the lobby of its new Texas corporate headquarters. The customer had Fastlane Plus turnstiles securing its previous headquarters and more than five years of reliable performance and service convinced it no other supplier was worth consideration.
“Energy is a huge industry here in Texas and where there is that much business at stake, security is important to the organization,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “We are pleased to partner with this energy company to help provide effective entry security as it continues to grow. It is a compliment to our team and our entry security solutions when a happy customer eagerly returns to buy more Fastlane turnstiles from Smarter Security.”
The customer installed five lanes of Fastlane Glassgate 200 with four-foot high glass to control access into the main lobby entrance of its new headquarters. Since opening its previous headquarters with two lanes of Smarter Security’s Fastlane Plus 400MA, rapid growth led to the company’s expansion into other office buildings. This new headquarters consolidates these various properties into one which required more entry lanes in the lobby. Fastlane from Smarter Security was an obvious choice due to the security effectiveness and reliability of the first installation, and the customer chose Glassgate because it wanted high technology with cutting-edge design for its new building. The tall glass of Glassgate 200 is not only an aesthetic upgrade, but it also better deters and obstructs entry by intruders.
Fastlane Glassgate 200 is the original swinging-glass barrier turnstile in Smarter Security’s Fastlane line and retains its appeal due to its slim and sleek design, three options in barrier-glass height, and proven reliability. It features the same core Fastlane optical technology as found in the Glassgate 150, 250, and 400 models; this distributed intelligence architecture provides the highest alarm accuracy, ¼” tailgate detection, and a faster entry to help workers get to their offices sooner.
Fastlane Glasswing Optical Turnstiles Installed after Poor Experience with Competitor’s Product
Austin, Texas – July 8, 2013
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a global semiconductor company recently installed Fastlane Glasswing optical turnstiles in its manufacturing and research facility in the eastern United States. After initially installing competing turnstiles in one building, Kratos Public Safety & Security Solutions, Inc. helped its customer switch to Smarter Security and Glasswing for its next building due to the company’s superior sales support and service.
“We have worked with Kratos on a number of projects across the country, and we appreciate them recommending Smarter Security for this semiconductor company’s security needs,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “While our Fastlane optical turnstiles are widely known for their sleek design, technology, and reliability, our customers know Smarter Security for our people who provide personal attention to their needs during the sales process and with any technical or support needs that may arise.”
The customer recently installed five lanes of Fastlane Glasswing to protect the entrance from a non-secure cafeteria into the worker’s offices and manufacturing center. The first order with Smarter Security placed five lanes of Glasswing in the main lobby of this same building. The customer chose Glasswing because the turnstile has retracting glass barriers which is the same barrier type used on the competing turnstiles that were first installed in an adjacent building.
Kratos Public Safety & Security Solutions, Inc. was the systems integrator on the initial optical turnstile installation in another building. Problems with the supplier’s service, delivery, and ability to keep promises prompted Kratos to recommend switching to Smarter Security for any additional entrances needing security. A Kratos representative who has worked with Smarter Security’s Director of Sales Northeast Region, Robin Hakos, says “she is very responsive, cares about the customer, and always comes through.” The systems integrator also appreciates the drawings and on-site training provided by Smarter Security.
Fastlane Glasswing from Smarter Security is a security turnstile with elegant glass barriers that quickly retract into the pedestal body upon user authorization. The turnstile is designed to allow passage of up to 60 people per minute and has multiple safety beams designed to prevent the barrier from striking users. Glasswing offers high security with multiple alarms that detect if someone has entered the lane, pushed open the barriers, or moved the barrier without being in the lane. Advanced intelligence from Fastlane optical technology minimizes false alarms and reliably detects tailgaters.
Tailgate Detection System from Smarter Security Improves Access Control for Leading Social Media Company
Successful Pilot Leads to Expansion of Door Detective Installations in Locations throughout North America
Austin, Texas – August 7, 2013
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a leading social media company completed an internal pilot this year of Door Detective Compact and has standardized on Door Detective to enhance door security with tailgate detection. The customer has since placed three orders for Door Detective for locations on the west coast and in Canada, and most recently for an office building on the east coast.
“We are excited to be working with this customer that sees the value in upgrading doorway access control for many of its business locations,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Technology companies frequently have valuable intellectual property or sensitive data that makes it worth spending a little bit more to dramatically increase the protection level. Accountability is critical. As this customer found in its extensive testing, Door Detective works very well and provides the serious door security leading organizations need.”
The most recent order by the social media company was for a single unit of Smarter Security’s Door Detective CL to help secure the entry to a data center on the east coast. Previous orders totaling eight units were all for Compact models, favored by this customer due to aesthetics, and were used for tailgate detection on suite entry doors in multi-tenant buildings. Concerns about the security risk in shared-space buildings prompted the customer to conduct the initial Door Detective pilot. The six-week pilot demonstrated Door Detective’s effectiveness and accuracy in alarming tailgaters and piggybackers while enforcing the company’s requirement for everyone to use credentials.
Door Detective is a tailgate detection system available from Smarter Security with three models to choose from, including the EL, CL, and Compact. The different models have unique aesthetics as well as differences in visual alarm signals and price levels. In addition to forcing authorization for all entrants, Door Detective also ensures direction integrity and is used to assist with anti-passback enforcement for highly secure facilities.
Large U.S. International Airport Deploys Anti-Passback and Tailgate Detection System to Protect Core Airport Terminal Operations; Initial Success with Door Detective Results in Large, Recent Orders
Austin, Texas – April 30, 2012
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that one of the country’s Top 25 largest airports recently expanded its use of the company’s Door Detective CL to better secure employee-only doors and elevators in the airport terminal. Successful deployments of Door Detective at the airport three years ago resulted in additional orders in late 2011 and 2012, with Smarter Security’s anti-tailgating units now protecting more than forty entrances. The airport uses Door Detective to enforce its anti-passback policy and more effectively detect potential intruders entering secure airport operational areas.
“We are honored to be a part of the security efforts that help create more secure airports throughout our nation and enable individuals to experience safer air travel,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Door Detective provides a tremendous value for protecting sensitive areas at airports and other locations because it reliably addresses a significant issue—the open door—which even the best access control systems fail to protect.”
As with all large, international airports, this particular airport has many doors and elevators in its terminal that lead to restricted areas and are accessible by travelers and other airport visitors. Smarter Security’s Door Detective helps the airport enforce its anti-passback policy by enabling security managers to always know where each issued badge is on the premises and immediately be made aware of any potential security breaches. Door Detective sounds an alarm anytime someone passes in either direction through a restricted doorway at the airport without authorization. To augment alarm response, Door Detective can also trigger other security measures, such as sounding a remote alarm, activating cameras or locking a downstream door. The airport prevents high traffic and baggage from damaging its investment by encasing each unit with Door Detective Vandal Guards.
While typical access-controlled doors provide a level of security, anyone can pass through a door once it’s open, enabling them to have access to non-public, operational areas. Authorized individuals also may occasionally be denied access to areas because they failed to “badge” through a previous access-controlled door. Door Detective resolves these issues because it forces each person to present authorization before proceeding through a restricted entrance. Working in sync with a building’s access control system, Door Detective ensures that workers logically process from zone to zone so their whereabouts are known at all times.
Smarter Security’s Door Detective is used in a wide variety of applications to complete a building’s access control efforts, including data centers, athletic clubs, cash rooms, executive suites, research labs and inventory areas. Four Door Detective models are available, including the premium CL used by this airport, the EL and the Compact. Mini-Optical is a free-standing Door Detective designed to secure open corridors as well as doors.

Optical Turnstiles from Smarter Security Chosen to Secure New Headquarters for Healthcare Industry Leader
Customer Happy with Fastlane Plus Turnstiles and Smarter Security’s Technical Services Installs More Lanes in Headquarters Building
Austin, Texas – December 12, 2012
Smarter Security, Inc., provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a top ten health insurance company recently installed Fastlane Plus optical turnstiles in the lobby of its new corporate headquarters building. Prior experience with Fastlane Plus operating for several years in another corporate office location convinced the customer Fastlane Plus was ideal for its lobby security needs in the newly constructed building.
“Aesthetics are always an important consideration for the headquarters of a large company, and the elegant designs of Fastlane optical turnstiles accentuate any lobby,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Healthcare companies are pressured to contain costs and Fastlane turnstiles help do that through the return on investment that comes from high reliability, tighter security, and a reduction in security staffing costs. We are pleased to be a continuing part of this customer’s business success.”
Six lanes of Smarter Security’s Fastlane Plus 400MA turnstiles are deployed to control access through two entryways in the lobby of the new building. The customer appreciates the style and small footprint of Fastlane Plus but high satisfaction with the performance and reliability of the existing turnstiles and the service and support from Smarter Security persuaded this healthcare leader to consider nothing else. One lane of IntelliGate, an automated 39”-wide gate with Fastlane optical technology for tailgate detection, is also deployed to allow passage of carts and large equipment used by maintenance workers.
Fastlane Plus 400MA from Smarter Security has two metal barrier arms that deter intruders and drop quickly to allow passage for authorized users. Advanced, microprocessor-based intelligence ensures tailgaters are alarmed and alarm accuracy is high. Premium Office Tower on East Coast Includes Fastlane ClearStyle 200 Optical Turnstiles in Renovations to Dramatically Improve Occupancy Rate Amid Downturn. The 2012 North America Office Space Forecast is Weak, Opening Investment Opportunity for Other Buildings.
Austin, Texas – December 15, 2011
Smarter Security Systems, provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that Fastlane ClearStyle 200 optical turnstiles were an important part of the major renovations undertaken at a downtown, Mid-Atlantic office tower dealing with the loss of its primary tenant. With the building improvements, new tenant signings increased and after a new flagship tenant moved in to ten floors last month, occupancy is now at more than 95 percent. Leading property management companies forecast slow or declining growth in the North America office space market in 2012.
This Mid-Atlantic high-rise faced critical financial issues when the departure of its primary tenant left it three-quarters vacant in the recession year of 2009. The building owners seized the opportunity to make the building more attractive by investing tens of millions in modernizing the Class A property, including a lobby renovation, security upgrades, and HVAC system improvements. As part of the security plan, the customer installed twelve lanes of ClearStyle 200 to control access to the two elevator bays. Aesthetics were of prime importance to the Class A building which led them to the patented and architect-inspired ClearStyle for modern lobby security. The small footprint of ClearStyle also enabled the customer to install three lanes at each entrance, providing one more lane to speed access to the elevators. All told, the significant building upgrades led to the signings of several major leases in tough economic times.
Jones Lang LaSalle released its “2012 National Commercial Real Estate Outlook” on Monday. In this research, the leading firm predicts very slow growth in the commercial real estate market next year. Citing global uncertainty and slow employment gains, office space demand in the United States is actually forecasted to decline. Cushman & Wakefield reported two weeks ago in its “2012 Office Outlook” that office space demand in Canada will be down early in the year and will pick up slightly in the second half of 2012.
“Many savvy real estate companies are taking advantage of this slow economic period by investing in capital upgrades. Interest rates are incredibly low, so they will be nicely positioned when the recovery gets wheels,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security Systems. “Automating lobby security with advanced turnstiles not only improves security, but it also often has a very short ROI and even reduces insurance rates for building owners. As we saw in this building, elegant optical turnstiles can also contribute to the revenue side by attracting new tenants. We are happy that our Fastlane turnstiles have helped this Class A building sign tenants and greatly improve its financials.”
Fastlane ClearStyle 200 is one of many non-barrier optical turnstiles offered by Smarter Security Systems. Barrier models with metal arms, retracting glass, or swinging glass gates offer a greater deterrent and the same intelligent Fastlane optical technology for high alarm accuracy and strong tailgate detection. Smarter Security also offers FastScan TVS, an integrated proximity and barcode reader, which this building deployed at each entrance to smoothly and elegantly integrate visitors into the access process and further increase pedestrian throughput.
Leading Biotech Company Secures Multiple Buildings with Optical Turnstiles from Smarter Security Systems
Customer Installs Fastlane GlassGate 250 at Headquarters and Other Sites to Enhance Access Control and Stop Tailgating
Austin, Texas – July 12, 2011
Smarter Security Systems, provider of premium, innovative entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that a leading biotechnology company recently upgraded its Fastlane Plus optical turnstiles in its East Coast headquarters to Fastlane GlassGate 250. Additional lanes have also recently been installed at various research labs and production facilities as the biotech company moves to further standardize its security practices at its many facilities in North America.
Fastlane Plus turnstiles were installed to help secure the lobby when the headquarters building opened many years ago. When this biotech company moved to update its aesthetics by replacing the two lanes in its lobby, it returned to Smarter Security due to the superior performance and support it received from the company over the years. The customer chose Fastlane GlassGate 250 because they felt that shorter glass offered a nice balance between security and aesthetics. The small footprint also fits cleanly where the old turnstiles had been.
The customer also installed GlassGate 250 at two research labs. Further, Fastlane GlassWing was the preferred model at a production plant where security was recently enhanced. The biotech company is installing turnstiles in new locations to help stop tailgating and to improve its access control. The company uses card in/card out at every installation for safety and more accountability so it knows who is in the building at all times.
Team AVS is the security integrator which installed and commissioned the Fastlane turnstiles and helps the biotech leader with its security efforts across the United States. “Fastlane has been reliable since we installed the first lanes for this customer in 2003, and we also like their turnstiles for the strength of the anti-tailgating technology,” said Tom Leonard, President of Team AVS.
“It is terrific to have this end user and Team AVS as repeat customers for so many years. They have placed their faith in our Fastlane solutions, and they continue to replicate that success in many other facilities. We are happy and honored to support them in their current security expansion,” said Jeff Brown, President of Smarter Security Systems. “In the biotech industry where security is so important, this customer does a great job of blending it with aesthetics. The good news with Fastlane is you can have both – premium security with elegance in design.”
GlassGate 250 is a new speedgate introduced by Smarter Security Systems in 2010. With dual swinging glass barriers in each lane, it is the fastest in the GlassGate line. The pedestals are streamlined and the glass elegantly opens in either direction to be flush with the sides of the pedestal. The shorter-than-pedestal-height barriers have brakes which resist efforts to push through them. This adds to the security provided by the two-stage alarm and advanced Fastlane optical technology.
Top 10 U.S. Retailer Selects Fastlane GlassGate Optical Turnstile for Lobby Security; More Lobbies Planned
Austin, Texas – June 22, 2010
Smarter Security Systems, provider of intelligent entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that one of the top ten retailers in the United States recently installed seven lanes of Fastlane GlassGate 200 in its corporate headquarters on the east coast. This initial installation is part of a broader agreement with the customer to supply additional GlassGate turnstiles for lobby security efforts in other buildings throughout the country.
Working with the consulting and engineering firm, WB Engineers | Consultants, the customer’s initial order was for seven lanes of GlassGate 200 with 3-foot high glass. Four lanes were deployed in the main entrance and three lanes were installed at an employee entrance in another part of the building. Both areas have at least one lane with FastScan TVS, an integrated barcode/proximity reader, flush-mounted in the pedestal ends. For enhanced security and tracking of both visitors and employees the customer elected to require all people to badge in and badge out and included FastScan TVS or proximity readers in both ends of all lanes.
“We needed to specify an extremely reliable, aesthetically pleasing, high-capacity optical turnstile that would maintain a high level of security while still promoting a welcoming environment,” said Philip Lofgren, Senior Associate and Director of IT & Security Design Services for WB Engineers | Consultants in Boston, MA. “We accomplished all those goals using Fastlane GlassGate 200 turnstiles, and after several months of service, our customer is quite pleased.”
“Fastlane was first-to-market with a streamlined, swinging glass barrier turnstile a few years ago and GlassGate has been one of our best-selling models ever since,” stated Jeff Brown, President of Smarter Security Systems. “We are excited to work with this industry leader to protect their employees, visitors, and property in multiple locations. We are planning for the next order of up to nine lanes in the next two months.”

Elegant Fastlane® GlassGate™ Optical Turnstiles Increase Security While Reducing Expenses
Austin, Texas – September 16, 2009
Smarter Security Systems, provider of intelligent entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced its Fastlane GlassGate 200 optical turnstile was chosen to protect the lobby of a prominent class A building in Los Angeles. In addition to enhancing the safety of the people and property in the building, the Fastlane security turnstiles also enabled the building management to save operational expenses by reducing its security officer headcount.
“We are pleased to count another distinctive building in southern California as one of our customers,” said Mark Ellsworth, Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Smarter Security Systems. “In order to be competitive, premium Class A buildings must provide security for their tenants, and Fastlane GlassGate is the perfect blend of security and style for such a property. This client, as many do, discovered the payback period on installing Fastlane turnstiles is short. With the reliability and the security performance of Fastlane, this customer reduced its guard count and will begin realizing net savings within three years.”
Four lanes of GlassGate 200 with four-foot high glass were installed in pairs to secure access to two elevator bays in the lobby of the building. The multi-tenant high-rise office tower is managed by a property management company that chose GlassGate 200 after seeing it in a Fortune® 50 corporate headquarters, where they were impressed by its aesthetic appeal. The small size of the pedestals was also important as the turnstiles had to fit into an existing space and the customer wanted two lanes per elevator bay. After installing the turnstiles, the management company eliminated two security officer positions which saved 160 man hours a week.
Fastlane GlassGate is a high security optical turnstile because of the deterrence provided by the imposing glass gates that can be as high as six feet. The swinging gates move quickly to allow authorized passage and to return to position to block tailgaters. Safety beams protect those in the lane from injury from the moving gates. In addition to the imposing barrier, Fastlane optical technology detects tailgaters within a quarter inch and sounds local or remote alarms to notify security guards. Additional security measures, such as controlling elevators and triggering CCTV cameras, can also be automatically activated. The advanced intelligence of Fastlane systems reduces false alarms, making the turnstiles easy to manage by guard staff.
Smarter Security will be showcasing GlassGate, as well as its barrier arm turnstiles and its new architect-inspired Fastlane ClearStyle™ at ASIS International’s annual event in Anaheim, September 21-24, 2009.
