Smarter Security Systems Named to Inc. 5000 for Third Straight Year

Optical Turnstile Leadership Continues to Drive Company Growth; Company Ranked Number 2,928 on 2010 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies
Austin, Texas – August 25, 2010

Smarter Security Systems, provider of intelligent entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced that Inc. recognized the company among its 2010 Inc. 5000 ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America. With three-year sales growth of 73 percent, Smarter Security ranked as number 2,928 overall in the annual list. This marks three consecutive years the company has been included among this group of the most successful private enterprises across all industries.

“The leaders of the companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have figured out how to grow their businesses during the longest recession since the Great Depression,” said Inc. president Bob LaPointe. “The 2010 Inc. 5000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs.”

Smarter Security Systems has offered Fastlane entrance control solutions since its founding in 1992. The company gained significant ground in the optical turnstile industry in the last two years, with the Fastlane brand finishing 2009 as the undisputed market leader in speedgates in the Americas (per IMS Research). Fastlane Door Detective also experienced a record number of customers ordering the anti-tailgating system in 2009. This success as well as the contribution from the much younger outdoor security division sustained the company through the economic tumult of 2009.

“I am extremely grateful to be included among this list of high-performing businesses once again,” said Jeff Brown, President of Smarter Security Systems. “As for many organizations, 2009 was a more challenging year for us. I’m proud of our team that pulled together to reach new successes and position Smarter for more rapid growth as our country recovers from this extended downturn. We are pleased with our growth over the last three years and are earnestly working to provide the security solutions and excellent service to make the next three even better.”

In addition to its overall ranking at number 2,928, Smarter Security also ranked number 241 of the 404 companies in Texas, the state with the second greatest number of companies on the list. The security industry made up almost 1.7 percent of the 2010 Inc. 5000 and was represented by more companies than a year ago. Among the 84 security companies, Smarter Security ranked number 54.

The 2010 Inc. 5000 list is based on revenue growth from 2006 through 2009. To qualify, companies had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent – not a subsidiary or division of another company – as of December 31, 2009. Additionally, revenue had to be at least $80,000 in 2006 and $2 million in 2009. Complete rankings for the latest Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database can be found at
