Strong Demand for Fastlane Optical Turnstiles Propels Company into the Top 20% at No. 839 on 2009 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies
Austin, Texas – August 13, 2009

Smarter Security Systems, provider of intelligent entrance control and outdoor security solutions, today announced it was again named by Inc. as one of the Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private companies in America for the second straight year. With three-year sales growth of 354 percent, Smarter Security ranked as number 839 overall in the annual list. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy — America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.

“Savvy trend spotters and those who invest in private companies know that the Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate,” said Inc. 5000 project manager Jim Melloan. “That’s why our list is so eagerly anticipated every year.”

“We are honored to be part of this select group of successful American companies for the second consecutive year,” stated Jeff Brown, President of Smarter Security Systems. “At a time when most American companies scaled back spending and reduced headcount, our ‘pedal to the metal’ strategy succeeded and paid great dividends. In 2008 we ramped up our marketing efforts, hired even more great people, and subsequently doubled our revenue. This is really a testament to our team of people. Over this period, we’ve been able to capture North American market share leadership for optical turnstiles. I’m confident that with our combination of superior Fastlane products and the investments we’ve made in operations and really bright people, we will continue to make a difference for our customers and post increasing returns.”

Smarter Security Systems has built its business from the ground up selling Fastlane optical turnstiles and Fastlane Door Detective to help detect tailgaters and prevent unauthorized intruders from entering buildings and secure areas. Recently introduced FastScan™ reader systems are unique in their respective categories and compliment the core Fastlane entrance control products. Further adding to the growth in the last three years has been a line of intelligent and integrated outdoor security solutions that deliver the asset and people protection that organizations need at their perimeters and in remote areas.

With its national ranking of number 839, Smarter Security climbed over two-thousand positions from its 2008 list debut at number 2,936. The company also ranked number 80 of the 393 companies in Texas, the state with the second greatest number of companies on the list. In the security industry, which comprised almost 1.5 percent of the companies in 2009, Smarter Security grew faster than nearly all, finishing at number 18 of 74.

The 2009 Inc. 5000 list is based on revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent – not a subsidiary or division of another company – as of December 31, 2008. Additionally, revenue had to be at least $200,000 in 2005 and $2 million in 2008.
